Quick Take: Peking Gourmet Inn

The Peking Gourmet Inn is a very good Chinese restaurant on Leesburg Pike in Falls Church. It's a bit kitschy, touristy because George Bush I was a big fan. You can even snag a table with his picture looming above. But that doesn't change the fact that the food is pretty damn tasty.

A recent meal consisted of Peking duck, a specialty; Peking Gourmet beef; and Treasure Chicken, a mild preparation with green peppers, water chestnuts, mushrooms and peanuts. As with most tourist-friendly Chinese restaurants, "hot and spicy" means mild and tame, but the food is still good.

The service was very attentive, maybe a bit too much. But it's nice to have a smiling face, even if it's painted on.

Prices are quite high. Basic entrees are $13-15, with specialties ranging from $17 to $30. The Peking duck is $37. It's very good, but possibly bested by Mark's Duck House.

This is a great, casual restaurant for groups. They offer special group menus that are very generous, in the ballpark of $30 to $40 per person.
