A la carte tacos in a friendly setting

A wide selection of a la carte tacos forms the foundation of this family-friendly restaurant, which also has an Alexandria location. It's a little bright, and the kid-count can reach maddening levels, but the good food and some of the friendliest service around are worth the trip.

Typically oversized burritos are on par with other weighty wraps, but the tacos will keep you coming back. Home fried shells make their crispy L.A. style tacos messy but delicious; pork and beef are tops, and a veg version is available.

Duck carnitas soft tacos can be hit or miss, occasionally on the dry side, but the red onion escabeche is a smart addition. Tacos al pastor, available in the evening, include pineapple, a nice change on a hot summer day.

Tacos are a la carte, but skip the side sampler. Instead, try a side of the fresh guac (might need a little more salt). A rotating roster of specials is also worth a look. Margaritas, with a housemade mix, are some of the simplest and best around, a perfect match for the slightly sweet salsa, also whipped up in the back.

Bottom line: Worth a trip, some of the best Mexican in a region begging for choices.
